What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy aims to restore and optimise functional movement through the use of manual techniques, electrotherapies and rehabilitative exercise prescription.
The most common uses of physiotherapy in the animal world are:
Performance enhancement in the competition horse or dog
Treatment of musculoskeletal injuries
Post-operative rehabilitation for animals with orthopaedic or neurological conditions
Enhancing quality of life and mobility in cases of degenerative conditions such as arthritis.
Physiotherapy can help to alleviate mobility restrictions, promote strengthening, improve stability and provide non pharmaceutical pain relief.
Do I need to speak to my vet?
Under the veterinary surgeons act (1966) veterinary referral must be gained before any physiotherapy treatment can begin. Rebecca will liaise closely with you and your vet to ensure the best possible treatment for your animal.
